August 2009 Newsletter
Hi Ladies,
Some interesting things happened at Tuesday’s chapter meeting (Aug. 4) that I
want to share with all of you.
The Piecemakers are collecting "Back to School" supplies for the Lady
Lake Elementary school and asked if we wished to join. We have a new
member, Tessa ??, who works at Staples. (Staples has a great sale going
this week.) I asked her to get $20.00 worth of supplies and bring them next
week. We will pass the hat and add any shortfall from our petty cash.
Anyone who also wants to bring school supplies is, of course, welcome to
do so.
I paid the deposit on the retreat at the Methodist Enrichment Center. Having
talked to several of our day people, their opinion was commuting from Lake Yale
is harder than from Fruitland Park, so I made the decision to stay with the UMEC.
The dates for the retreat are Feb. 2 - 4, 2009. The cost
appears to be $145.00 for overnight and $75.00 for day people. The center
is under new management, and I was assured there was no problem with having some
of our people commute.
Nancy Myers announced that the Wildwood Food Kitchen is having an auction in
November and would like a quilt. The group voted to help out. Elaine T. is
just finishing up a cute animal quilt that she is willing to donate.
We decided to use the Senior Adventures bus trip if we want to go to the
Jacksonville Quilt Show, Sept. 24-26. More information on signing up to
follow.
A motion was made to create a B's label to add to our charity quilts that don't
go to the Marion County Forest kids. (There is already a label for those
quilts.) Judy Porter and Jackie Whitehead are going to bring in some
samples.
The Guild is having a "garage sale" this month. Jackie is going
to organize one for our chapter - possibly including the Piecemakers - for early
November. We will invite the other chapters to come browse.
Hope you are all having a great summer. See you soon.
Beth
