September 2007 Newsletter
Members of the Piecemakers Quilt Chapter have been busy this summer with various programs and projects.
The Piecemakers went to Ocala Sewing Center in Baylee Plaza on July 31. We saw a demonstration of a felting machine and had the opportunity to look around the shop at their selection of fabrics, patterns, and notions. Afterwards, we enjoyed lunch at Beanhead’s Coffee Shop, which is in the same shopping center.
Piecemakers brought in school supplies which were taken to The Villages Elementary of Lady Lake on August 14. The items donated included 33 boxes of crayons, 37 bottles of glue, 31 notebooks, 20 folders, and 212 pencils, as well as numerous other items.
Ruth Dyer was guest speaker at our meeting on August 28. Ruth is an interior decorator and writes a decorating column in “The Daily Sun“. Ruth gave us numerous tips about color choice, furniture placement, and use of accessories. Several members of The B’s came down for the program.
We are in the process of making lap quilts for the VA Nursing Home. Several quilt tops have been pieced and we will be completing them in the next few weeks.
Piecemakers member Mary Shara has received a unique honor. Her ‘Tree of Life” quilt won a blue ribbon at The Villages Quilt Show and was entered in The Applique Society Show in Tampa in May. She was then asked to let her quilt be included in a special exhibit called “In the American Tradition.“ This group of twenty-five quilts will be a part of the Houston Quilt Show later this year. It will then travel to other quilt shows all over the country during the next year. We are very proud of Mary’s achievement, especially since we got to see this quilt as a work in progress and in its finished version at our quilt show.
