October 5, 2009 Just
to let you know Doreen Hunter will be bring a guest tomorrow night.
Her name is Allie and she is the one who makes the dog beds for donations to
shelters. Since she has had surgery she's been unable to make these
beds. We asked her to come and tell us about the beds, how she makes
them and possible some of you would be willing to help her by using up your
nubbins to make a bed. Please
bring any of your "nubbins" to the meeting and she will show us
how to short thru it. See
you tomorrow. Laurie Don't forget guild meeting tomorrow, voting for Pres and Trea will take place.
Show and Tell
Laurie showed us her journal of completed projects. Dorene completed a table runner. Janet is working on a Scotty Dog quilt for a grand child one day. Eunice our seasonal member sent in 2 charity quilts. Terry is working on an appliqué quilt w/cars & trucks for her grand.
Ally the dog bed lady showed just how to complete a doggie bed. It was very interesting, now we know what she does with our nubbins. She usually sends them to the humane society or vets. The sizes are 28x21 and 28x33. I think I will make one for my little dog.
Guild meeting highlights
Demos
Old Business
Office of Pres had one nominee Jeanette Flint (sp) and Beth Bender as Trea. Vote was taken and carried.
Current Pres. reminded us to complete survey and email it back to our chapter Pres. She also mentioned that only 1 chapter has given her names for the waiting list (that's us). Some also suggested that maybe there should be a chapter for each new rec center that opens.
We had many, many demos; Judy showed us how to make a really cute little fat sack out of fat qtrs, but that best and most interesting was of course by our very own Joe. (he is such a character) He showed everyone how to make the origami shirt with fat qtrs by us using a piece of paper.
I picked up a few extra copies of the Demo Night Program if you want one. Dorene did a good job of coordinating.
Below
you will find a copy of the flyer for the Sewing expo in Feb.
Next week - Block of the Month or anything that you want to work on.
AReed Secty
October 12, 2009 No meeting, but lots of show and tell.
Laurie had pillows made with same fabric she used for the placemats; Jan completed 2 baby quilts, one with bamboo batting; Phyllis gift box placemats and Ruth had a really pretty wall hanging.
Laurie told us about shop hops, on Nov 7 and Nov 12 - 15. She has the flyer fm the newspaper if you are interested.
She also asked us what we would like to do for the Holidays; Gift exchange, white elephant, snacks/desserts or perhaps the Carriage Museum for the light show. Most seemed interested. Tickets are $15.00, however, Laurie will get more details and will pass it on.
Nancy reminded us of the Chinese Auction, scheduled Nov 2. So start getting together your items and also bring some containers to put the tickets in.
Marilyn went over the instructions for the sweatshirt jacket that is scheduled 10/19. Hopefully everyone found a sweatshirt and their fabrics for the activity next week. We are scheduled to start it on Monday (10/19) and also work on it the following week (10/26).
Well that's all folks!!!
AReed Secty October 19, 2009 Sharon announced that the guild is going back to the Life Long Learning for quilt classes. Following are classes for 2010/2011.
If you need additional info on these classes, contact to Life Long Learning College.
Show and Tell
Phyllis' sister (believe it or not) asked her to make a few more Schlep Bags; Mary showed us a really pretty baby quilt that was quilted by the new quilter Sew Comfort (the one behind Sew Cherished); Arlene bought in the quilt she made for her mother quilted by Barbara Meunier, as well as her completed block of the month, table runner and placements; Jan also completed the gift box placemats, Sharon showed us a really nice tote bag; Dorene had a tote bag, several expressed interest so perhaps this can go on our calendar for next year; Kathy came back with a lot of charity quilts as well as fabrics that we dove right into. We have plenty fabrics to make a charity quilts for next year.
There will be a new chapter in Jan. in Colony Plaza.
After this brief business we proceeded to make our sweatshirt jacket. We will complete them next week.
Also, one of you told me that one of the members have decided not to come back and join our group because she felt that her sewing/quilting ability does not come up to our level. We need to know who this is because she should not feel this way, we are all novices and still learning and not professional in any way.
AReed Secty October 26, 2009 Doreen will follow up on Christmas get together since Laurie will be handling personal business.
New chapter opening in Dec will be at Allamandar Rec Center, first organizing meeting is 11/3, if interested, plan on attending.

Jo delivered Mary Jo's quilt to her husband, he offered to pay for completing if however, Jo said no she was part of our family and was glad to get it completed and given to him with our love.
